On May 19 New York State Senator Cordell Cleare commemorated the 100th birthday of Malcolm X, one of the most influential leaders in the global fight for Black liberation and human rights. The celebration will take place in Harlem, where Malcolm X lived, organized, and left an indelible mark on the community.
To honor the life and legacy of Malcolm X, Senator Cleare introduced Senate Resolution No. 962 to the Legislative Body. The resolution acknowledges Malcolm X’s vital role as a Muslim minister, public speaker, and uncompromising advocate for the rights of Black Americans during an era of entrenched institutional racism.
“Malcolm X walked these streets of Harlem, speaking to crowds and uplifting our fight for dignity and justice,” said Senator Cleare in a press statement. “While he was a global figure, he was also a husband, father, and son—deeply rooted in this community. We are proud to call him one of our own.”
